Walking in the mind of the Spirit of God is essential to understanding life now lived in the Kingdom of God in Jesus Christ. Why do I make this distinction “walking in” the mind of the Spirit? By inheritance all of God’s people have the mind of the Spirit. As with all of the other blessed gifts of God bestowed upon all of His people, actually functioning in the Holy Spirit is essential to the manifestation of the blessed gifts of God. To have an inheritance and to operated in it are two different things. As in the natural realm, development is essential to full realization in the spiritual realm. For example, you have all of the muscles that constitute a human body. Without function or operation those same muscles atrophy. The way of functioning or operating in the mind of the Spirit is walking in the mind of the Spirit.
God expects and requires this faith, this believing, this relationship with Him in the mind of His Spirit. Such is The Way, The Truth, and The Life in Jesus Christ in this Day Age. Jesus is the Author and Perfecter (The Completer – The Consummator) of believing God! He is The Alpha and The Omega! He is everything. He fills all. Having this operative faith in Jesus Christ is the way of the Spirit of God.
When you walk in the mind of the Spirit you will understand the fullness of Eternal Life!
There is one Father, one Spirit, one faith, and one mediator between God and man, The Man, Christ Jesus! There is one mind of the Spirit operating in the one gift of Eternal Life in the one Kingdom of God in Jesus Christ our Lord!
This singular unity, this glory in us is the answered request of Jesus to the Father. There is one outstanding characteristic that ensures the functional manifestation of the mind of the Spirit in God’s people. It abides forever. It was the ground of victorious believing in the down payment of the Spirit given in the last days of the Age of the Law, and it is the ground of victorious believing in this full inheritance of the Spirit given in this Age of the Day. What is this characteristic? It is fixing your eyes on Jesus! What does that mean? This word is used twice in the New Covenant Scriptures. Paul applied it to himself about sending Timothy to the Philippians after he “looked attentively to and properly evaluated” his own current circumstances. Then it is used by the author of Hebrews as the ground and fortress of victorious faith. It is a very powerful word, used to strengthen the faith that honors God. The word translated “fixing” is a combination of two words; apo (away from) and look (to perceive, to discern clearly). It means to look away from all else and to fix or focus the gaze upon the one object, Who in this singular application is Jesus. It means to focus sole attention upon Jesus! All else is left out of consideration.
There is a powerful miraculous lesson about this faith that Jesus taught His disciples, and, through the record of Matthew, taught us all. In a group of miracles recorded by Matthew to highlight the deity of Jesus and to establish the requisite faith in Him, during a storm at sea Jesus walked on the water toward the boat that contained the battered disciples. At first they were terrified, thinking Him to be an apparition. Jesus told them not to fear. Peter said in response, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to you upon the water.” Jesus said, “Come!” Peter got out of the boat and walked upon the water towards Jesus. Then, he looked at the wind and began to sink. He cried out to Jesus to save him. Jesus took him by the hand and said, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”
This episode illustrates the strength of faith in looking away from all else and fixing upon Jesus and, at the same time, it illustrates the outcome of failure, when the same person looks away from Jesus and sees and is affected by obstacles.
In obedience Peter walked in the mind of the Spirit upon the word of Christ and knew victory! In disobedience, in small faith, in doubt he looked away from Jesus and considered the natural condition to his loss.
The winds of the doctrines of men have tossed about the people of God to their spiritual loss. Fixing, that is, focusing upon Jesus alone, Who is the Word of God, is the fortress of overcoming faith in Him.
Walk in the mind of the Spirit and you will know glory to God in the Highest!
This is the way that you will know the fullness of eternal life.
