2000 years ago all believers began to manifest eternal rivers of life flowing from within themselves!
John declared: Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. The one who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’” But this He said in reference to the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given because Jesus was not yet glorified.
This entire passage demonstrates the reality of immortal language revealing eternal life in the lives of disciples of Jesus. It applies now in full measure. It applied then in partial measure. It is the very same reality. The difference is in the degree of the measure of life!
Immortal language is language of eternal reality; it is spiritual language. In the pivotal time, Jesus stood and proclaimed in great momentous teaching that the thirsty were come to Him and have their thirst quenched by drinking Him! This event was to be realized through their believing in Him. He declared that their satisfied drinking would, furthermore, issue into rivers of living waters flowing from within each believer according to God’s promises and purposes! That event - those flowing rivers of life - occurred approximately 50 days after His promise.
Jesus said that the Scripture said such would happen. “Scripture” was written by John as stated in the singular tense. There is no exact Old Covenant Scripture quote of Jesus’ statement. However, the Old Covenant Scriptures are full of statements made that the blessings and lives of believers in the last days of the Law would be in the reality of the water(s) of eternal life flowing from the presence of God. Jesus combined the vast array of Scriptural prophecies and promises into one concrete Scriptural statement and reality. This is the way to see and understand the full and deep meaning of immortal language.
It must be noted and realized that the fulfillment of this reality was given in the last days of the Law to all of the believers who were alive then! Jesus revealed that it awaited the outpouring of His Holy Spirit after His glorification, that is, after His death, resurrection, and ascension. This promise was fulfilled during the following Feast of Pentecost, the next feast that occured after Jesus’ death and resurrection.
People who doubt and/or gainsay the full expressions of spiritual realities in this Day Age of the Kingdom of God must understand that their belief systems already allow and even demand such understanding of immortal reality by them – unless they absurdly teach that literal, physical rivers of life were flowing from within believers in the last days of the Mosaic Law!
What God requires and expects now is that believers realize the fullness of the inheritance of the same spiritual realities that they teach happened in the down-payment time of the Spirit.
